Tanaka Digital Lab: Leading the Way in Dental Restorations

BiteSoft®

BiteSoft® presents an innovative solution to address the distressing issue of bruxism, a condition where patients unconsciously grind their teeth during sleep, leading to chronic tooth pain and potential damage. By utilizing BiteSoft® splints, patients can effectively mitigate teeth grinding and clenching at night, promoting restful and undisturbed sleep. This revolutionary approach to managing bruxism not only offers relief from discomfort but also safeguards teeth and existing restorations against the harmful effects of grinding. Notably, BiteSoft® splints go a step further by easing jaw pain, and their remarkable comfort ensures high patient compliance. This blend of therapeutic design and comfort has catapulted BiteSoft® into popularity, positioning it as a leading solution for both bruxism and TMJ pain management.

Prescription of BiteSoft® for Bruxism

BiteSoft® is a frequently recommended option for individuals grappling with bruxism or TMJ issues. Crafted as a custom-fit mouthpiece, the splint envelops the anterior six teeth, effectively promoting jaw stability and relaxation during sleep. For patients encountering symptoms associated with TMJ or bruxism, BiteSoft® emerges as a reliable, pain-free answer that mitigates the detrimental effects of these conditions.

Commencement of Treatment

During the initial appointment, it’s important to emphasize that BiteSoft® is not suitable for posterior bridges or anterior bridges featuring a pontic span exceeding 14 mm. The process involves obtaining a precise PVS impression of both the mandibular and maxillary arches, without necessitating specialized bite registration techniques.

Guidelines for Delivery

The delivery of the BiteSoft® appliance is straightforward. Insert the appliance into the patient’s mouth and ensure that it cannot be easily dislodged using lip or tongue pressure. Verify that the mandible cannot surpass the posterior edge of the ramp. The lingual ramp functions to guide the incisors onto the incisal table, distributing occlusal load evenly across three or four opposing incisor teeth, effectively inhibiting bruxism. Typically, a vertical opening of up to 2 millimeters is sufficient, as minimal clearance of posterior teeth is necessary for all mandible positions. Confirm that the incisal table aligns perpendicular to the long axis of opposing anterior teeth.

Patients may require an adjustment period to acclimate to the splint. For those experiencing initial discomfort, it’s recommended to wear the splint for a few hours overnight until comfort is established. Some muscle tenderness might occur initially, particularly among patients familiar with using splints in the past.
